What format is the drive Can you buy a hdd for a backup get somethingl ike a 8tb. While having the 4k in the bedroom is nice.my primary concern is still with the main home theater, so do not want to be watching a 'degrated' image.

hell fucking no i dont want to pay for something that claims to be for free i dont want to pay for it i guess ill just not make digital videos of my blurays anymore im sick of free stuff going to paid nonsense. Theres nothing like having all of your movies sitting on a hard drive, ready to play. Im still using beta keys but when the author quits putting them out Im going to buy it. The one thing I am not sure about is when I play the file in my 1080p theater (Odroid C2 running Kodi) is the 'downscaled' image equivalent to what it would have been if it was a rip from the regular BD for the movie. Makemkv is the bomb, its wonderful software.

Yesterday, I got the 4k BD for John Wick 2 and ripped it 1-1.came out at around 70gb. I recently got a 4k/HDR tv for my bedroom so now I am thinking about getting 4k discs going forward so I can watch them in 4k in the bedroom if I want. The MKV format can store multiple video/audio tracks with all meta-information and preserve chapters. It converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way.
